2013 NSW Police Legacy and Emergency Service's Anzac Day Kokoda Trek

Story

We are raising money for the 2013 NSW Police Legacy and Emergency Services Anzac Day Kokoda trek.

Legatees are the children of Police officers who have died.  This year we will be taking another 40 participants including Police, Fire and Ambulance officers and 6 Legatees.  We are endeavouring to raise the $30k required to take the legatees with us on this magnificent journey. The cost per legatee is $5k, which funds all travel, accommodation and food for this 2 week journey.

The Kokoda track is 96 km and takes 8 days to complete. The track passes through rugged mountain ranges, in a glorious jungle rain forest setting. The jungle is alive with cascading fresh water streams, which tumble and wind through the mountain ranges and steep valleys. This incredible environment is also home to the most beautiful people who welcome you with open arms and smiling children, leaving a lasting impression forever. The villages are alive with humbled and friendly people who will greet you with warm smiles and open arms. The children are adorable and will leave a lasting impression on you.

This trek offers the opportunity for the participants to walk in the footsteps of those courageous men and women who have gone before, who bravely stood for a belief and helped stem the red tidal wave of the seemingly insurmountable Japanese advance. Their supreme and unselfish Sacrifice helped shape Australia and gave us the freedoms that we enjoy today.

The Kokoda track journey represents 'sacrifice, courage, endurance, and mateship' in each and every participant reinforced with an emotional and inspiring visit to Bomana Cemetery at the completion of the trek.

We would welcome any contribution, great or small, that you could make!

Thankyou for your support,

Jane Prior

The Trustee For NSW Police Legacy

NSW Police Legacy is the NSW Police Force Charity. Established in 1987 it was initially founded to support the bereaved families following the loss of their loved one. Now, our support extends to include police officers and their families experiencing challenging times in their lives. Our police family has grown to include not only families suffering from loss and grief, but those experiencing misfortune that require extra support. Our committment is to build on the care and support of serving and retired police officers and their families during times of tragedy and need with financial assistance, emotional support and networking opportunities so they are never forgotten. http://www.policelegacynsw.org.au/
