Jenna Hunt for the 2013 NSW Police Legacy Kokoda Trek

Story

In April I will be walking the Kokoda Track with emergency services and police legatees in the 2013 Police Legacy Kokoda Trek.

The nine legatees who are completing this challenge are raising money for the orphans of Efogi village.

We will visit this village on our journey and get to meet the beautiful children who we are raising money for. With your help, we will be able to provide them with a schooling scholarship and also take over some toys, games, books and clothes. As a Police Legatee and a teacher, I feel very privileged to be a part of something so amazing and would like to "give back" by supporting the children of Efogi.

My dad, Luke Hunt, served in the NSW Police Force for 17 years.

Dedicated to becoming an officer, my dad worked hard at his training and his results reflected his dedication. With a young family this would not have been an easy feat, as time away from home meant missing me walk for the first time.  He began his career in 1988 at Maitland Police Station. In 1995 he was promoted to Senior Constable. My favourite memories of his time as an officer revolve around our time in the tight-knit community of Morpeth where we lived as a family at the historic Morpeth Police Station, which was built in 1879. His reputation as a highly respected general duties officer paved the way for his transfer to Police Prosecuting in 2000. After a long battle with bowel cancer, he passed away on the 9th of February 2005, in his home, surrounded by his family.  Since that moment, police legacy have provided a tremendous amount of support to my mother, brother and I. Legacy provided me with a trust fund which contributed to the deposit for the purchase of my first home. I feel so privileged to have been selected to walk the Kokoda Trek with Police Legacy.

Walking the track with fellow legatees who have lost a parent will make this journey a very personal and touching experience.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and donating. Every cent counts. It means a lot to me but even more to the children of Efogi orphanage.

The Trustee For NSW Police Legacy

NSW Police Legacy is the NSW Police Force Charity. Established in 1987 it was initially founded to support the bereaved families following the loss of their loved one. Now, our support extends to include police officers and their families experiencing challenging times in their lives. Our police family has grown to include not only families suffering from loss and grief, but those experiencing misfortune that require extra support. Our committment is to build on the care and support of serving and retired police officers and their families during times of tragedy and need with financial assistance, emotional support and networking opportunities so they are never forgotten. http://www.policelegacynsw.org.au/
